FMN FACILITY - OPENING 2027

FMN has been blessed with the opportunity to plan and build out a new animal shelter facility for our rescue & the North Pole community. This has been in the works now for almost 2 years now! We are so excited to share all that we have been working on with you!

About The Facility

FMN’s mission is to rescue, adopt, and advocate for Alaska’s pets in need. We aim to cultivate and nurture a community rooted in a shared love for animals and the desire to do better for them.

In this new facility, our team will be able to increase our efficiency and expand our reach in our rescue & adopt program as well as open our new low cost spay and neuter program for interior Alaska! ✷Adoption Program & Animal Housing ✷

Within our rescue & adoption program, this facility will drastically increase our capacity, efficiency, and overall reach.

For our dog friends, this facility includes 11 indoor/outdoor dog runs, 3 alternative canine living spaces, and 2 canine isolation spaces. For our kitty friends, we will have a large cat room with various cat habitats including secure outdoor catio options, and an alternative feline living space.

Having these secure spaces will allow the rescue to immediately intake pets safely without foster commitment or behavioral evaluations. Having immediate housing options reduces resources needed for emergency placements. These spaces will also allow the rescue to more easily do “rescue shuffles” of pets in our care when foster home need breaks, have personal emergencies, foster pets do not mesh, etc.

FMN will remain limited/managed intake and foster-based in this new facility. Even with a new, fancy facility, it remains an important pillar of our mission and core belief of the rescue to maintain responsible and ethical rescue practices - this includes only taking on what we can manage as well as provide the best individual care, most easily found in foster homes.

✷ Facility Use, Access, & Volunteers ✷

This facility will also become FMN’s homebase for all appointments, transfers ,adoptions, admin office, etc! Having a centralized location for our network of fosters, adopters, and volunteers will streamline our processes and allow more time spent with our furry friends and less time in the car <3

For the safety of our pets & our volunteers, the integrity of our adoption process & application, and due to remaining a primarily foster-based rescue, the facility and access to our pets will be limited to appointments only for approved applicants and initiated by our adoption team. Our standard adoption process will continue to apply, though we anticipate some minor changes once we are settled.

Having a homebase location will also mean more volunteer opportunities! Our facility will be open for approved and vetted volunteers to join our team and help care for the animals under our roof! From cleaning kennels, laundry, feeding, donation organization, walking dogs, socializing kittens, animal enrichment, and sooo much more - there will be plenty to do! Our volunteer need will increase considerably and we will be looking to add a strong team of reliable, dedicated animal lovers!

✷ Community Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program✷

Something we have dreamed of providing to our community for almost 6 years is low cost spay and neuters. With this facility, this dream can now become reality.

We have designated 2 clinic rooms for this new program, a separated exam & treatment room and a surgery suite. The large multipurpose room will be used to hold pets pre-op and in recovery.

Our main contributor (investor/sponsor/angel) wishes to be not be publicly shared at this time, but we would still love to publicly thank them for making our dreams come true. Being able to put a literal roof over the heads of Alaskan animals in need and provide needed services to our community is exactly what we have been working towards and everything we could have ever wished for for FMN.
