All new FMN pets start at one of our expert foster homes trained to provide an informal and relaxed pet evaluation to determine first hand what the pet’s needs may be while in rescue. This usually is not any specific or additional tasks and more so an observation on behavior and reactions. Pet behavior can change between new environments and their needs may change during/after the transition from their previous home. It is important to FMN to ensure we are meeting our pets needs as best as we can and place our pets in homes that can maintain them.

After initial observation, new pets may move foster homes. Depending on our observation and current rescue abilities, new pets may move from their initial foster to another foster that is best suited for them. These reasons can include home criteria (no dogs/kids/cats, fencing, neighborhood, etc), foster availability (fosters humans deserve vacation too!), medical or behavioral needs, “rescue shuffle” and more. Fosters may be moved between foster homes throughout their time with FMN depending on their and their foster’s changing needs. With that said, most foster pets do stay in the same foster home throughout their time in rescue.

Veterinary Care Providing quality medical care is one of FMN’s core values and ensuring proper care has been completed is an important step in our pet’s journey to adoption. FMN requests previous medical records from previous owners and clinics listed in surrender contract to determine any pre-existing medical needs that may need addressed. Depending on previous records and current condition of pet, additional veterinary work up may be done. All of FMN veterinary care is completed with licensed veterinarians at local clinics.

All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. Additional medical care may be provided depending on recommendations from our vet team. We complete all recommended care based on veterinary work up including bloodwork, orthopedic surgeries, dentals, etc.

Adoption Process Once the pet is fully vetted, including foster home behavior observation & completed veterinary work up, the pet becomes available for adoption! FMN lists all adoptable pets as available on our website, Facebook, and Instagram and begins accepting adoption applications. We review all applications and select the best fit based on the pet’s needs and schedule a meet and adoption appointment with the selected family. Adoption is not first come, first served.

If the adoption does not work out at any point in the pet’s life, FMN requires all families to return their pet to FMN. We do not allow our pets to end up bouncing around through private rehoming, shelters, or other rescue. We love and care for all of our pets throughout the entirety of their lives.

FMN cannot and will not share previous owner info with adopter. Adoption information is strictly confidential for the safety and wellbeing of all involved.

Euthansia FMN does not euthanize for space or length of time in rescue. Being limited intake allows us to take our time in reviewing applications and waiting for the right match to adopt our pets to. There is no time deadline for pets to be adopted, we will love them and care for them for however long it takes.

FMN does euthanize for medical needs and dangerous behavioral needs. Medical need euthanasias are discussed and determined alongside our veterinary team. We do not euthanize for easily managed or fixable needs but will euthanize for hospice care when the time comes and for inhumane medical conditions that cause untreatable pain and suffering. Behavioral need euthanasias are discussed and determined alongside our professional team of vet staff & certified trainers. Not all behavioral needs require euthanasia but behaviors that are a danger to our volunteers, fosters, and to our community are not compatible with adoption.
